Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who grew up in Royal Oak, drew on some of his metro Detroit teen angst to make “Toy’s House.” Now the film has landed a deal at the Sundance Film Festival.CBS Films has obtained the U.S. rights to the quirky, heartwarming story of teenage boys who construct a makeshift home in the woods, .Vogt-Roberts in the scramble to leave for Sundance and said that even though the story is set in Ohio, “Toy’s House” speaks to his experiences of being a teen here. He moved to Phoenix at 14 and then returned home for his senior year at Royal Oak’s Dondero High School.The cast of the film includes Nick Offerman (“Parks and Recreation”) and his wife, Megan Mullally (“Will & Grace”), Alison Brie (“Community”) and Trenton’s Mary Lynn Rajskub (“24”). In a statement, CBS Films Scott Shooman called “Toy’s House” a “loving throwback for a new generation” that is bound to earn comparisons to “Stand By Me” and “The Goonies.”The Hollywood Reporter says Vogt-Roberts has been cutting a distinctive swath in Park City, Utah with his full-length fur coat and entourage. He’s the creator of the Comedy Central series “Mash Up,” and his work has been shown previously at Sundance in the short film category. “Toy’s House” has been generating good reviews at the festival. “Like the lazy summer the boys spend in that hidden house, “Toy’s House” doesn’t really follow anyone else’s path. It’s an original, and a real gem,” .Another director with Detroit ties also will leave Sundance with a deal for her movie. “Concussion,” a bold new film by Stacie Passion, who grew up in West Bloomfield, was acquired by Radius – TWC .WATCH:

KALAMAZOO -- Brady Hoke said today that Michigan punter Will Hagerup remains suspended, and his status for next year is undetermined.The Wolverines' football coach, speaking to reporters after a speech at a Michigan High School Football Coaches Association clinic, said he expects to decide on Hagerup's status by spring football, which will culminate with the spring game April 13. Hagerup was suspended for the Outback Bowl, his third suspension at U-M -- which have cost him a total of six games.After speaking for an hour to coaches on how he prepares his football team each week, Hoke said of U-M's season: "We had a (expletive) year, to be honest with you. Eight wins, it's not good enough."Hoke went on to say he was "extremely proud" of the effort his players gave in an 8-5 season. He was asked about his characterization of the season after the speech."I mean, it was, for the expectations (we had)," Hoke said. "It was probably an improper word to use. But, you know, I love how the kids worked, and they helped grow us. But it's not the expectations."Hoke also said cornerback Blake Countess (knee) might be able to take part in some activity during spring ball. And he said of U-M's 2013 recruiting class: "It'll be a big class. I'm not gonna get into numbers, but it'll be a big class."A year ago at this event, MSU coach Mark Dantonio interrupted U-M assistant Jeff Hecklinski when Hecklinski's speech focused too much on U-M for Dantonio's liking. Hoke said he and Dantonio have talked about the incident.
